To provide scholarship support to full time undergraduate students (12+ day credits) with deomonstrated financial need as determined by the Financial Aid Department.  Preference will be given to entering students as well as residents of Dartmouth, Fall River, Freetown, Westport, Somerset, or Swansea, and then Bristol County.

To support a full-time (12+ day credits per semester) student(s) enrolled in the Honors Program at the University.  Preference is for a student(s) who is maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher, demonstrates academic promise, and who lives by the ideals that Dr. Ali embraced such as honesty, hard work, compassion, humility and goodwill towards people of all faiths, ethnicities and nationalities.  Community service and volunteerism will also be considered.

Ameen, Emil "Smokey" Scholarship

To provide scholarship support to full time (12+ day credits per semester) matriculated undergraduate College of Visual and Performing Arts students. Decisions on awards shall be based on merit and promise of artistic achievement.

Recipients may apply for successive scholarships but an award does not imply continuation beyond a single year.

Anderson, William T. Memorial Scholarship

The scholarship will support a full-time (12+ day credits per semester) junior or senior engineering student in good standing with demonstrated financial need as determined by the Financial Aid Office.

This scholarship will  be awarded annually to full-time (12+ day credits per semester) sophomores, juniors or seniors with financial need as determined by the Financial Aid Office.  Students will be College of Engineering majors or have a minor or major in Sustainability.

Aubut, Richard and Joann Scholarship

To provide financial support to a student in the College of Nursing. Students must have deomonstrated financial need and maintain a cumulative grade point average of 2.7 or better.  Preference will be given to a full-time (12+ day credits per semester) nursing student entering their junior or senior year who resides in the Greater New Bedford Area.

Ayling, Alice Scholarship

The Alice Ayling Scholarship is designed to assist full-time (12+ day credits per semester) undergraduates, who are Massachusetts residents, and demonstrate academic promise as well as financial need.  Preference is given to incoming freshmen.  Although there is not a minimum GPA requirement, every effort should be made to maintain a quality GPA.  Recipients will attend a mandatory meeting with the donor during the fall semester.

This scholarship is renewable, conditional upon completing a new application, satisfactory academic performance and continued financial aid eligibility; however an award does not imply continuation beyond a single year.

Babbitt, John I. Engineering Scholarship

To support a full-time (12+ day credits per semester) junior or senior in the College of Engineering that exhibits good character, scholastic ability, promise of a successful career and financial need.

At the discretion of the Dean of College of Engineering, the same student may receive the award for two successive years.

Baker II, Charles D. Presidential Scholarship

To provide scholarship support for a full-time undergraduate or graduate student who is a US Citizen or Permanent Resident of Massachusettes.  Recipient must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better.

Balestracci, Solveig Scholarship

To provide scholarship support to full-time (12+ day credits per semester) entering freshmen who are residents of Fairhaven, New Bedford, Acushnet, Dartmouth, Westport, Marion, Mattapoisett, Freetown, Rochester or Lakeville. 

This scholarship is non-renewable.

Bannister, Harold Scholarship

To provide scholarship support for full-time (12+ day credits per semester) students in textile technology (Bioengineering), preferably from the greater Fall River area, deminstrated financial need and academic performance.

To be considered for this scholarship, you must file your FAFSA  by March 1 and complete verification, if applicable.

There is no application for this scholarship.  Recipients will be chosen by the Chair of the Bioengineering Department.

Baptista, Joseph & Mary Scholarship

To support full-time, matriculated graduate (9+ day credits per semester) and undergraduate (12+ day credits per semester) students in the College of Arts & Sciences who are studying the Portuguese language, history or culture.  Award decisions shall be based on financial need as determined by the Financial Aid Office.  Students must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.  Each scholarship will be a minimum of $500 and may be as much as one-half of the recipient's tuition for the year.

Recipients may apply for successive Baptista scholarships but an award does not imply continuation beyond a single year.

Barnstable Assoc for Recr. Shellfising (BARS) Endow Scholarship-Biology

For Massachusetts residents with preference given to Barnstable residents.  The student will be a full-time (GRAD 9+ day credits per semester/Undergrad 12+ day credits per semester) sophomore, junior, senior or graduate student with a minimum GPA of 3.2.  The award will alternate between a Biology major and a School of Marine Sciences and Technology major.

Biology majors award on odd years (21-22, 23-24 etc)

Barnstable Assoc for Recreational Shellfising (BARS) Scholarship-SMAST-(Agency)

For Massachusetts residents with preference given to Barnstable residents.  The student will be a sophomore, junior, senior or graduate student with a minimum GPA of 3.2.  The award will alternate between a Biology major and a School of Marine Sciences and Technology major.

Biology majors award on odd years (21-22) / SMAST majors award on even years (20-21)

To provide scholarships for two full-time (12+ day credits per semester) undergraduate students majoring in the Portuguese language or Portuguese Studies.  Preference is given to entering freshmen from the Fall River area who graduated from BMC Durfee High School.

This scholarship is renewable for the student's undergraduate years at the University, however an award does not imply continuation beyond a single year.

Bertram Berger BSCE/ASCE Presidential Scholarship

This scholarship will provide support a full time (12+ day credits per semester) Civil Engineering Junior or Senior student in good academic standing with demonstrated financial need.   Leadership achievements will be considered.

Blue & Gold Star Scholarship

To support a full-time (12+ day credits per semester) Freshman or Sophmore with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher or a 2.7 GPA minimum. Preference given to incoming freshman.

Borden & Remington Scholarship

The Borden and Remington Scholarship was establblished to provide scholarship support to family relatives of  Borden & Remington Employees.  Borden & Remington will verify the employee has been successfully employed at Borden & Remington at the time of application and at least 2 years prior.  

Recipients may apply for renewals, however an award does not imply continuation beyond a single year.

Bristol County South Medical Wives Auxilliary Scholarship

Buckley, Sean '85 Scholarship

This scholarship will support matriculated full-time undergraduate students.  Preference is given to incoming freshman who are graduates of Bishop Feehan High School, Attleboro High School, and North Attleboro High School.  Preference will also be for students with academic promise, those who have overcome a personal medical or financial hardship, and those who have participated in extracurricular activities, as well as financial need as determined by the Financial Aid Office.

Bulger, William M. Presidential Scholarship

The University of Massachusetts (UMass) is offering five $10,000 scholarships to provide recognition of and financial assistance to five outstanding students. To be eligible for the William M. Bulger Presidential Scholarship, students must meet the following criteria:
  • Be currently enrolled full-time at one of the UMass campuses - Amherst, Boston, Dartmouth, Lowell, or Worcester
  • Amherst, Boston, Dartmouth and Lowell applicants must have an overall GPA of 3.25 with a minimum of 12 credits earned atUMass.
  • Worcester applicants must be in good standing with a minimum of 30 credits earned at UMass Worcester.
  • Be a permanent resident of Massachusetts
  • Open to all majors
The scholarship is awarded for one year and is renewable for up to three years. In order to be considered for reenewal, you must complete a new William M Bulger Presidential scholarship application and a GPA of 3.25 and full-time enrollment status (12+ day credits per semester) must be maintained throughout the duration of the scholarship.  An award does not imply continuation beyond a single year

Cabral, Alfred Scholarship

To support a full-time (12+ day credits per semester) junior Nursing major who has financial need as determined by the Financial Aid Office and has a GPA of 3.2 or higher.  Preference will be given to students from the Fall River or New Bedford area. 

The scholarship is renewable for the senior year providing the student maintains all of the eligibility requirements.

Campbell, Professor Allan L. Civil Engineering Scholarship

To provide scholarship support to the highest-ranking full-time (9+ day credits per semester) graduate in the Civil Engineering Department.

There is no application to be considered for this scholarship. The scholarship will be awarded to the highest-ranking graduate in the Civil Engineering Department.


Canto, Frances A. Art Scholarship

To provide scholarship support to full-time (12+ day credits per semester) students who will major in the Fine Arts with a preference to those students who will have a focus on painting.  This scholarship is for a student with demonstrated financial need.  Peference will be given to students that reside in Somerset or New Bedford, MA.

This scholarship is non-renewable.

Carrier, Daniel Scholarship

To provide selected Dartmouth High School graduating seniors with a $500 scholarship for their freshman year at the University. Funds will be given to chosen the graduating seniors who are in the top third of their class. Students must enroll full-time (12+ day credits per semester).

Carrier, Jeanne F. Scholarship

To provide scholarship(s) of up to $1,500 to Dartmouth High School graduating seniors for their first year at the University.  Student(s) must be enrolled in 12+ day credits per semester. Recipients must have graduated in the top third of their class and must have demonstrated finanical need which is determined by the Financial Aid Office.  Preference is for students who have been residents of the Town of Dartmouth for a minimum of four years.  

This scholarship is non-renewable.

Carrier-Pisarczyk Scholarship

To aid one or more full-time, matriculated graduate (9+ day credits per semester) or undergraduate (12+ day credits per semester) students. Minimum annual awards of $1,000 will be based on demonstrated financial need and academic merit and can be used for tuition as well as fees, campus room and board, and other regular university expenses.

Carvalho, A. J. Scholarship

To support full-time (12+ day credits per semester) female students of Portuguese descent who have graduated from New Bedford High School, have demonstrate financial need, and have a cumulative GPA of 3.0. 

The scholarship may be renewed annually until the recipient receives her undergraduate degree from UMass Dartmouth provided that the recipient maintains a cumulative GPA of 3.0 and continues to demonstrate financial need by filing their FAFSA by March 1, and complete verification, if applicable.

Cassell, Ruth & Dean Scholarship

To support a full-time student (12+ day credits) in the Honors Program with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2,  Student must have played a varsity sport in High School. Preference to leadership, teamwork, student government, Resident Assistant, orientation leader, and/or substantial financial need.

Student's may apply for renewal by completing a new Ruth & Dean Cassell application. All eligiblity requirements must continue to be met.

Castonguay, Rose Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship will support a full-time student (12+ day credits per semester) student who has completed the third year of the four-year Bachelor's program (must be a senior) in the College of Nursing.  Recipients will have demonstrated high academic and professional accomplishment and financial need as determined by the Financial Aid Office and should display the qualities of empathy, equanimity, and devotion to duty.

Catlow Family Scholarship

To provide scholarship support to full-time (12+ day credits per semester) students enrolled as Mechanical Engineering majors in the College of Engineering.  Students must have financial need as determined by the Financial Aid Office and must be in their sophomore, junior or senior year.  The student must maintain a GPA of 2.8 or above. 

The scholarship is renewable as long as recipients maintain eligibility requirements and file their FAFSA by March 1.

Duarte, Sean Scholarship

To support a full-time (12+ day credits per semester) sophomore, junior or senior Civil Engineering student who has demonstrated financial need.  Students must have at least a 3.25 grade point average and must be involved in the national Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) initiatives with local public schools.  Other community based projects may apply.

Melendes, Robert A. Memorial Scholarship

To support full-time (12+ day credits per semeser) undergraduate students who demonstrate a gift for the study of physics. The amount of the award may be determined by the selection committee but it is the donor's preference that an award from the fund provide for all or as nearly as possible all of a recipient's tuition, fees, and living expenses for the academic year.  In the event that more candidates are determined to be eligible for the scholarship than there are funds available, the selection committee may look to other criteria such as need or excellence in other fields.  However, a student with less need but greater potential for excellence in physics shall prevail over a student with greater need but less potential.

Ward, Cecilia Scholarship

To support a deserving student with specific literary or performing arts talent who will be prepared to present a performance or reading of an essay in a public forum at the University.  The student must have demonstrated consistent outstanding work in the selected areas, as indicated in his/her academic record.  Preference will be givent to students with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.  Need based criteria may be referenced by the scholarship selection committee in their choice of the student only when two or more applicants have achieved equal academic standing in their performing arts or literary record.  The goal is to give a $1,000 scholarship to two candidates a year, preferably to one in literature and one in a performance field.

Watson, Donald Scholarship

To support a full-time (12+ day credits per semester) junior majoring in Engineering and Science including Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Sciences, BioEngineering (Textiles and Materials) and/or Physics.  Preference will be given to the student who displays a passionate desire to succeed in the above areas, shows outstanding leadership qualities, as well as outstanding communication skills.  Their passion to succeed can be demonstrated by maintaining a 3.0 (or higher) cumulative GPA or by demonstrating an outstanding work ethic be it through the University's co-op program or other work program. 

Other considerations include financial need or the loss of a parent to cancer.

Each scholarship will be up to $3,000 and the scholarship is renewable based on the student's academic performance and co-op experience.

To support the top 3 full-time (12+ day credits per semeser) juniors Civil Engineering majors going into their senior year, who have the highest grade point averages.  Students must be citizens of the United States.  The award recipients shall be chosen on the basis of merit and overall academic performance.

This scholarship is non-renewable.

To be considered for this scholarship, you must complete the College of Engineering Scholarship Application.

Xifaras, MarDee Community Activist Scholarship - Agency

To provide support to student(s) at UMass Law. First preference will be given to student(s) with demonstarted commitment to community service. Preference will also be given to students who reside in Bristol or Plymouth County, MA areas.

To be considered for this scholarship, you must  complete  the Law General  Scholarship Application .

Yerid, Donald M. & Cornelia E Scholarship

To support a full-time (12+ day credits per semester) undergraduate student in his/her junior year who is in good academic standing with a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher and has demonstrated financial need.  Preference is given to Accounting Majors in the Charlton College of Business who are U.S. citizens or other lawful permanent residents of the United States and whose permanent residence is in Massachusetts.

This scholarship is non-renewable.

To be considered for this scholarship, you must complete the UMassD General Scholarship Applicationfile your FAFSA by March 1 and complete verification, if applicable.

Zalkind, Norman Scholarship

To support a full-time (12+ day credits per semester) student with demonstrated financial need as determined by the Financial Aid Department.

This scholarship is non-renewable.
