Adaskin, Ethel & Edward Scholarship

To provide scholarship support to undergraduate students with deomonstrated financial need as determined by the Financial Aid Department.  Preference will be given to entering students as well as residents of Dartmouth, Fall River, Freetown, Westport, Somerset, or Swansea, and then Bristol County.  This scholarship is non-renewable.

To be considered for this scholarship, you must complete the UMassD General Scholarship Application and file your FAFSA by March 1.




Adaskin, Joan Memorial Scholarship

To provide scholarship support to a senior student majoring in mathematics with a 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA.  Preference will be given to a student with demonstrated financial need.  This scholarship is non-renewable.

Ali, Shaukat Memorial

To support a student(s) enrolled in the Honors Program at the University.  Preference is for a student(s) who is maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher, demonstrates academic promise, and who lives by the ideals that Dr. Ali embraced such as honesty, hard work, compassion, humility and goodwill towards people of all faiths, ethnicities and nationalities.  Community service and volunteerism will also be considered.

To be considered for this scholarship, you must complete the Shaukat Ali Memorial Humanitarian Scholarship Application, the UMassD General Scholarship Application and file your FAFSA by March 1.




Allard, Hailey Angel Scholarship

To support a rising junior or senior nursing student with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better who demonstrates financial need. First preference will be given to resident of Brstol County, MA.  This scholarship is non-renewable.

Alpert, Lynn and Fredric Distinguished Education Scholarship

To support a deserving senior undergraduate in the Education Department who is committed to a teaching
career in Massachusetts.

Alumni Association Graduate Scholarship

To provide  scholarship support for UMass Dartmouth students who are enrolled full-time (9+ day credits) in programs of study leading to a graduate degree and are maintaining a minimum GPA of 3.0.  Students must demonstrate financial need by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by March 1

Alumni Association Undergraduate Scholarship

To provide  scholarship support for UMass Dartmouth students who are enrolled full-time (12+ day credits) in programs of study leading to a undergraduate degree and are maintaining a minimum GPA of 3.0.  Students must demonstrate financial need by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by March 1

Alves, Alda & Yenawine, Bruce Scholarship

To provide scholarship support for graduate and undergraduate students in the College of Performing Arts.  Awards will be based on both merit and financial need.

Anderson, William T. Memorial Scholarship

The scholarship will support a full-time junior or senior engineering student in good standing with demonstrated financial need as determined by the Financial Aid Office.

Andreassen, Alexander T & Jan K. Scholarship

To support a full-time sophomore, junior or senior enrolled in the College of Engineering or minoring in Sustainability.  Students must have financial need as determined by the Financial Aid Office and must be in their sophomore, junior or senior year. 

This scholarship is renewable as long as recipients maintain the eligibility requirements.

This scholarship will  be awarded annually to full-time sophomores, juniors or seniors with financial need as determined by the Financial Aid Office.  Students will be College of Engineering majors or have a minor or major in Sustainability. 

This scholarship is not renewable.

Aubut, Richard and Joann Scholarship

To provide financial support to a student in the College of Nursing. Students must have deomonstrated financial need and maintain a cumulative grade point average of 2.7 or better.  Preference will be given to a full-time nursing student entering their junior or senior year who resides in the Greater New Bedford Area.  This scholarship is non-renewable.

To be considered for this scholarship, you must complete the UMassD General Scholarship Application and file your FAFSA by March 1.




Ayling, Alice Scholarship

The Alice Ayling Scholarship is designed to assist full-time undergraduates, who are Massachusetts residents, and demonstrate academic promise as well as financial need.  Preference is given to incoming freshmen.  Although there is not a minimum GPA requirement, every effort should be made to maintain a quality GPA.  Recipients will attend a mandatory meeting with the donor during the fall semester.

This scholarship is renewable, conditional upon completing a new application, satisfactory academic performance and continued financial aid eligibility; however an award does not imply continuation beyond a single year.

To be considered for this scholarship, you must complete the Alice Ayling and Travelli Scholarship Application,  the UMassD General Scholarship Application and file your FAFSA by March 1.
 




Babbitt, John Engineering Scholarship

To support a full-time junior or senior in the College of Engineering that exhibit good character, scholastic ability, promise of a successful career and financial need.

At the discretion of the Dean of College of Engineering, the same student may receive the award for two successive years.

To be considered for this scholarship, you must complete the College of Engineering Scholarship Application, the UMassD General Scholarship Application and file your FAFSA by March 1.




Baker II, Charles D. Presidential Scholarship

To provide scholarship support for a full-time undergraduate or graduate student who is a US Citizen or Permanent Resident of Massachusettes.  Recipient must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better.

To be considered for this scholarship, you must complete the Charles D. Baker II Presidential Scholarship Application.




Balestracci, Solveig Scholarship

For full-time entering freshmen who are residents of Fairhaven, New Bedford, Acushnet, Dartmouth, Westport, Marion, Mattapoisett, Freetown, Rochester or Lakeville.  This scholarship is non-renewable.

To be considered for this scholarship, you must complete the UMassD General Scholarship Application and file your FAFSA by March 1.




Baptista, Joseph & Mary Scholarship

To support full-time, matriculated graduate and undergraduate students in the College of Arts & Sciences who are studying the Portuguese language, history or culture.  Award decisions shall be based on financial need as determined by the financial aid office.  Students must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.  Each scholarship will be a minimum of $500 and may be as much as one-half of the recipient's tuition for the year.

Recipients may apply for successive Baptista scholarships but an award does not imply continuation beyond a single year.

Barnstable Assoc for Recreational Shellfising (BARS) Scholarship

For Massachusetts residents with preference given to Barnstable residents.  The student will be a sophomore, junior, senior or graduate student with a minimum GPA of 3.2.  The award will alternate between a Biology major and a School of Marine Sciences and Technology major.

Biology majors award on odd years (21-22, 23-24 etc) / SMAST majors award on even years (20-21, 22-23, 24-25 etc)

Barreira, Francelina S. and Manuel S. Scholarship

To provide scholarships for two undergraduate students majoring in the Portuguese language or Portuguese Studies.  Preference is given to entering freshmen from the Fall River area who graduated from BMC Durfee High School.

Scholarships are renewable for the student's undergraduate years at the University, however an award does not imply continuation beyond a single year.

To be considered for this scholarship, you must complete the UMassD General Scholarship Application and file your FAFSA by March 1.




Bertram Berger BSCE/ASCE Presidential Scholarship

This scholarship will provide support a full time Civil Engineering Junior or Senior student in good academic standing with demonstrated financial need.   Leadership achievements will be considered.

This scholarship is renewable, however an award does not imply continuation beyond a
single year.

Blue & Gold Star Scholarship

To support a Freshman or Sophmore with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher or a 2.7 GPA minimum. Preference given to incoming freshman.

To be considered for this scholarship, you must complete the UMassD General Scholarship Application and file your FAFSA by March 1.




Bochenek, Theodore Scholarship

To support worthy students who have demonstrated financial need.

To be considered for this scholarship, you must complete the UMassD General Scholarship Application and file your FAFSA by March 1.




Booth Family Scholarship

To aid full-time, graduate and undergraduate students in the College of Visual and Performing Arts who are employees of the campus library.  The award will be based on academic merit.

To be considered for this scholarship, you must complete the CVPA General Scholarship Application.




Borden & Remington Scholarship

The Borden and Remington Scholarship was establblished to provide scholarship support family relatives of  Borden & Remington Employees.  Borden & Remington will verify the employee has been successfully employed at Borden & Remington at the time of application and at least 2 years prior.  

Recipients may apply for renewals, however an award does not imply continuation beyond a single year.

Bradbury, Samuel & Sarah Scholarship

To support a full-time Art History major with demonstrated financial need as determined by the Financial Aid Department.

To be considered for this scholarship, you must complete the UMassD General Scholarship Application and file your FAFSA by March 1.




Bristol County South Medical Wives Auxilliary Scholarship

This scholarship will support a full-time matriculated undergraduate College of Nursing student entering their senior year who resides in Bristol County.  The student must demonstrate financial need as determined by the Financial Aid Department and academic merit.

To be considered for this scholarship, you must complete the College of Nursing Scholarship Application, the UMassD General Scholarship Application and file your FAFSA by March 1.




Bronstad, Joseph A Study Abroad Scholarship

To provide support to a student who will Study Abroad in Hessen, Germany. Preference will be given to students with a 3.0 or better cumulative GPA. Further preference to students who have completed German 101 & 102. 

To be considered for this scholarship, you must complete the Joseph Bronstad Scholarship Application.




Buckley, James M. SR. Scholarship

To Support a full-time student with demonstrated financial need who graduated from New Bedford High School.

To be considered for this scholarship, you must complete the UMassD General Scholarship Application and file your FAFSA by March 1.




Buckley, Sean '85 Scholarship

This scholarship will support matriculated full-time undergraduate students.  Preference is given to incoming freshman who are graduates of Bishop Feehan High School, Attleboro High School, and North Attleboro High School.  Preference will also be for students with academic promise, those who have overcome a personal medical or financial hardship, and those who have participated in extracurricular activities, as well as financial need as determined by the Financial Aid Office.

Bulger, William M. Presidential Scholarship

The University of Massachusetts (UMass) is offering five $10,000 scholarships to provide recognition of and financial assistance to five outstanding students. To be eligible for the William M. Bulger Presidential Scholarship, students must meet the following criteria:
  • Be currently enrolled full-time at one of the UMass campuses - Amherst, Boston, Dartmouth, Lowell, or Worcester
  • Amherst, Boston, Dartmouth and Lowell applicants must have an overall GPA of 3.25 with a minimum of 12 credits earned atUMass.
  • Worcester applicants must be in good standing with a minimum of 30 credits earned at UMass Worcester.
  • Be a permanent resident of Massachusetts
  • Open to all majors
The scholarship is awarded for one year and is renewable for up to three years. A GPA of 3.25 and full-time enrollment status (12+ day credits per semester) must be maintained throughout the duration of the scholarship.  An award does not imply continuation beyond a single year

Cabral, Alfred Scholarship

Support a junior Nursing major who has financial need as determined by the Financial Aid Office and has a GPA of 3.2 or higher.  Preference will be given to students from the Fall River or New Bedford area. 

The scholarship is renewable for the senior year providing the student maintains all of the eligibility requirements.

Campbell, Professor Allan L. Civil Engineering Scholarship

To provide scholarship support to the highest-ranking graduate in the Civil Engineering Department.

To be considered for this scholarship, you must complete the College of Engineering Scholarship Application.

 




Carrier, Daniel Scholarship

To provide selected Dartmouth High School graduating seniors with a $500 scholarship for their freshman year at the University. Funds will be given to chosen the graduating seniors who are in the top third of their class. 

To be considered for this scholarship, you must complete the UMassD General Scholarship Application 




Carrier-Pisarczyk Scholarship

To aid one or more full-time, matriculated graduate or undergraduate students. Minimum annual awards of $1,000 will be based on demonstrated financial need and academic merit and can be used for tuition as well as fees, campus room and board, and other regular university expenses.

To be considered for this scholarship, you must complete the UMassD General Scholarship Application and file your FAFSA by March 1.




Carvalho, A. J. Scholarship

To support female students of Portuguese descent who have graduated from New Bedford High School, have demonstrate financial need, and have a cumulative GPA of 3.0. 

The scholarship may be renewed annually until the recipient receives her undergraduate degree from UMass Dartmouth provided that the recipient maintains a GPA of 3.0 and continues to demonstrate financial need..

Cassell, Ruth & Dean Scholarship

To support a full-time student in the Honors Program with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2,  Student must have played a varsity sport in High School. Preference to leadership, teamwork, student government, Resident Assistant, orientation leader, and/or substantial financial need.

Student's may apply for renewal by completing a new Ruth & Dean Cassell application and all eligiblity requirements continue to be met.

To be considered for this scholarship, you must complete the Ruth and Dean Cassell Scholarship Application.




Catlow Family Scholarship

To provide scholarship support to full-time students enrolled as Mechanical Engineering majors in the College of Engineering.  Students must have financial need as determined by the Financial Aid Office and must be in their sophomore, junior or senior year.  The student must maintain a GPA of 2.8 or above. 

The scholarship is renewable as long as recipients maintain eligibility requirements.

To be considered for this scholarship, you must complete the UMassD General Scholarship Application and file your FAFSA by March 1.




Catonguay, Rose Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship will support a student who has completed the third year of the four-year Bachelor's program (Senior) in the College of Nursing.  Recipients will have demonstrated high academic and professional accomplishment and financial need as determined by the Financial Aid Office and should display the qualities of empathy, equanimity, and devotion to duty.

To be considered for this scholarship, you must complete the College of Nursing Scholarship Application, the UMassD General Scholarship Application and file your FAFSA by March 1.
 




Chancellor's Centennial Arts & Sciences Scholarship

To provide scholarship support for students who are pursuing their Master's Degree at UMass Dartmouth who demonstrate excellent academic standing in their chosen field of study.  Financial need may also be considered.  Must be full-time. Students in thesis continuation alone are not eligible. 

To be considered for this scholarship, you must complete the Chancellor's Centennial Scholarship Application, the UMassD General Scholarship Application and file your FAFSA by March 1.




Chancellor's Centennial Business Scholarship

To provide scholarship support for students who are pursuing their Master's Degree at UMass Dartmouth who demonstrate excellent academic standing in their chosen field of study.  Financial need may also be considered.  Must be full-time. Students in thesis continuation alone are not eligible. 

To be considered for this scholarship, you must complete the Chancellor's Centennial Scholarship Application, the UMassD General Scholarship Application and file your FAFSA by March 1.

Charlton, Earle P. Scholarship

To support an undergraduate or graduate student based on academic merit.  Preference is given to residents of the Fall River area.

Class of 2014 Dream Scholarship

This scholarship is to support a full-time student with financial need as determined by the Financial Aid Office.  It is also to recognize that students who best exemplifies Universty pride, spirit and academics.  

To be considered for this scholarship, you must complete the Class of 2014 Dream Scholarship Application and file your FAFSA by March 1.




Connell Family Presidential Scholarship

To provide scholarship support to a graduate of any public or private High School in Lynn or Swampscott, MA. Preference will be given to St. Mary's HS in Lynn, MA or a transfer student from North Shore Community College. Award will be based on demonstrated financial need as well as merit.

To be considered for this scholarship, you must complete the UMassD General Scholarship Application and file your FAFSA by March 1.




Cory, Professor Lester W. Scholarship

Provide scholarship assistance with preference given to an undergraduate sophomore or junior engineering student majoring in electrical or computer engineering.  Student must demonstrate financial need as determined by the Financial Aid Office.

To be considered for this scholarship, you must complete the College of Engineering Scholarship Application, the UMassD General Scholarship Application and file your FAFSA by March 1.




Cox, Phil Philosophy, Sociology, Urban Studies Scholarship

For full-time students who are majoring in Philosophy or Sociology or are minoring in Urban Studies.  Students must have financial need as determined by the Financial Aid Office and must be in their sophomore, junior or senior years. 

The scholarship is renewable as long as recipients maintain eligibility requirements.

Cranston Print Works Scholarship

To provide scholarship support to students majoring in Textile Department (Bioengineering).

To be considered for this scholarship, you must complete the College of Engineering Scholarship Application.
 




Crapo, Henry H. Endowed Scholarship

To provide tuition and fee support for a graduate or undergraduate student(s) from the New Bedford area who is/are attending the College of Visual and Performing Arts.

To be considered for this scholarship, you must complete the CVPA General Scholarship Application.




Curie Sklodowska, Marie Scholarship

To support scholarships for female science, mathematics, and engineering students at UMass Dartmouth.  Preference should be given to students of Polish descent

Curry, Raymond Scholarship

To aid full-time entering students from the greater Fall River area who are majoring in Mechanical Engineering.  Award decisions shall be based on financial need and academic merit.

Cygan, Henry F. Scholarship

To aid an undergraduate student majoring in Mechanical Engineering.  Award decisions shall be based on financial need and may be applied to fees, campus room and board, and other regular university expenses.

Dartmouth Industrial Development Foundation Scholarship

To support full-time fully matriculated students who have demonstrated financial need and are residents of Dartmouth, Massachusetts.

Devi, Mata Sugni Scholarship

To provide scholarship support to an undergraduate student majoring in Electrical Engineering with demonstrated financial need.

Dodge, Steve & Anne Presidential Scholarship

To provide scholarship support to a full-time undergradute with demonstrated financial need.

To be considered for this scholarship, you must complete the UMassD General Scholarship Application and file your FAFSA by March 1.




Doherty, Karon Richardson Memorial Scholarship

To support undergraduates or graduate students who are studying ceramics in the College of Visual and Performing Arts.  Preference for scholarship awards will be based on artistic ability first and financial need, second.

To be considered for this scholarship, you must complete the CVPA General Scholarship Application, the UMassD General Scholarship Application and file your FAFSA by March 1.




Donabella-Pedlow, Dr. Teal Scholarship

To support a first generation student majoring in Psychology who is in his/her junior year, with preference for a student from Fall River or New Bedford, MA

To be considered for this scholarship, you must complete the UMassD General Scholarship Application and file your FAFSA by March 1.




Dowd, Professor John Scholarship

To support a student majoring in physics with an outstanding achievement in physics with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5.

To be considered for this scholarship, you must complete the College of Engineering Scholarship Application.




Duarte, Sean Scholarship

To support a sophomore, junior or senior Civil Engineering student who has demonstrated financial need.  Students must have at least a 3.25 grade point average and must be involved in the national Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) initiatives with local public schools.  Other community based projects may apply. 

Scholarship recipients will have an opportunity to apply for a paid internship with Camp Dresser and McKee (CDM) and will also qualify for CDM's mentoring program as part of the scholarship award.  Scholarship recipients may apply for successive awards if they continue to maintain a 3.2 GPA, but an award does not imply continuation beyond a single year.

Dubois, W. E. Burghardt Scholarship

To benefit a UMass Dartmouth student, preferably African-American (or other person of color), who has demonstrated financial need and who has completed at least one year (24 credits) with an overall UMass Dartmouth GPA of at least 2.7. 

The scholarship is renewable for a total of three years so long as the recipient completes 24 credits per year and maintains an overall GPA of 2.7.  Funds may be used to assist with tuition, room, board, and other regular university expenses.

Duclos, Verne & Irene Scholarship

To support a full-time undergraduate student in the Charleton College of Business with demonstrated financial need and a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Dupre, Professor Edmund J. Scholarship

To provide scholarship support one or more deserving students majoring in Textile Chemistry (Bioengineering).  Awards may be made to undergraduate or graduate students.

Eccles, Lady Mary Morley Crapo Hyde Scholarship

Faulkner, Scott C. Scholarship

Awarded to a full time sophomore, junior or senior in the College of Engineering. Student(s) will have financial need as determined by the Financial Aid Office and preference will be given to Bioengineering majors. To have the scholarship renewed, the recipient must maintain a grade point average of 3.0 or above.

Fey, Grace K. Presidential Scholarship

The University of Massachusetts (UMass) is offering $1,500 scholarships to provide recognition of and financial assistance to an outstanding student. Students selected for the Grace K. Fey Scholarship must meet the following minimum qualifications:
  • Be currently enrolled full-time at one of the sponsoring UMass campuses – Amherst, Boston, Dartmouth, or Lowell
  • Be a resident of Massachusetts
  • Be a matriculated sophomore
  • Have an overall GPA of 3.5 earned at UMass
  • Open to all majors with preference given to mathematics, sciences and nursing

Fonseca, Senator Mary L Scholarship

To support incoming freshmen at the University who are residents of Fall River, MA.  Preference will be given to female students with high academic achievement at their high schools who plan to major in Political Science or one of the liberal arts at UMass Dartmouth.  Demonstrated financial need, extracurricular leadership and service to the community will also be taken into consideration.  The scholarship is a one-time, non-renewable scholarship.

Fontaine, Elanor S. Memorial Scholarship

To provide scholarship support to a sophomore student enrolled in the College of Nursing with demonstrated financial need and a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.  Preference is for a female student from the greater New Bedford area.  Recipients may apply for successive awards with the provison that they are remaining in the College of Nursing and that they are maintaining a minimum grade point average of 3.0.

Franconi, Brian Smith Memorial Scholarship

To support students in the computer and Information Sciences Department who have an interest in computing as a discipline; an interest and demonstrated ability in using computer systems to solve problems; an enthusiasm for learning; are active in learning situations, and pursuing computing from both a technical and social level.  Student must demonstrate financial need.

Freeman, John A. Scholarship

To support a full-time junior or senior in the College of Engineering who has financial need.  Eligible students must have at least a GPA of 2.5 or above and preference will be given to residents of Fall River, Massachusetts.  Recipients are eligible to receive the scholarship for multiple years if they continue to maintain a 2.5 GPA.

Frizzell, Jessee B. Memorial Scholarship

To aid full-time, matriculated undergraduate students majoring in either biology or chemistry.  Preference will be given to students from Little Compton or Middletown, RI regions.  Award decisions will be based on financial need and awards may be applied to tuitions, campus room and board, fees, and other university regular expenses.

To support a full-time undergraduate student in the Charlton College of Business with demonstrated financial need and a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. Preference will be given first to New Bedford High School graduate(s), then to student of the Greater New Bedford area and then to a student from Bristol County, MA.

This scholarship is automatically renewable if all criteria continues to be met.

Guimond Family Scholarship

To support a full time student in high academic standing with demonstrated financial need. The student will be an Electrical and/or Computer Engineering (ECE) major and must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0. Students in their sophomore, junior or senior year will be considered and recipients may receive the scholarship for multiple years as long as the minimum requirments are met.

To provide a scholarship for a deserving full-time textile science major (Bioengineering).

To support a full-time sophomores, juniors, and/or seniors who are MA residents with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.25 and who demonstrate financial need.  Students must have completed 24 credits at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth.

This scholarship is renewable for up to 4 semesters provided all criteria continues to be met.

Preference will be given to Native American, African American, Cape Verdean students with demonstrated leadership in extracurricular activities.  The minimum scholarship award is $1,000 and the maximum is $2,500.

  2. History or Political Science majors
  3. Members of the Phi Sigma Sigma, Delta Pi Omega, Iota Delta Nu or Alpha Sigma Tau sororities

Maclean, William Q. and Margaret E. Scholarship

To support the MacLean Campus Center and provide scholarships to full-time undergraduates, including freshmen or transfer students. Award decisions will be based principally on financial need but applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher and demonstrate a deep interst in public service or leadership on campus or in community.  Applicants must be resident of Acushnet, Dartmouth, Fairhaven, Freetown, Marion, Mattapoisett, NB, or Rochester.

This scholarship is renewable if the recipient re-applys and  maintains the minimum cumulative GPA is met and the recipient continues in public service or leadership.

Macy, Matthew J. Memorial Scholarship

To support a full-time Sophomore majoring in accounting with demonstrated financial need as determined by the Financial Aid Deartment.  Student should be a graduate from one of the following high schools:

Malick, Albert Scholarship

Provide scholarships for a junior and a senior in good academic standing majoring in Textile Science or Textile Technology (Bioengineering) with demonstrated financial need as determined by the Financial Aid Office.

Mankut, George Scholarship

Provides scholarship support to employees or relatives of employees of the R.E. Smith Printing Co., Inc. Should there be no applications from Smith employees, the award shall be made annually to a deserving student of Fall River.  Preference will be given to Freshman and undergraduate students.

Marshall Scholarship

To support 2 students with demontrated financial need. Each student will receive $1,100. One student must be a resident of New Bedford, MA and one student must be from Randolph, MA. The New Bedford resident shall be pursuing a degree in Math, Science, Engineering, Nursing or Med. Lab. Science. The Randolph students must be pursuing a degree in the College of Arts and Sciences

Matthews, Rosalind A. Presidential Scholarship

To provide scholarship support for a full-time stident with a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or better majoring in management.  Recipient must be a Massachusetts resident.  Preference will be given to students with ano inner-city background and graduate of Boston Public Schools.

Recipients may reapply but one year's award does not guarantee continuation beyond a single year.

McCoy Family Endowment Scholarship

To support a sophomore, junior or senior bioengineering student who has financial need.  Eligible applicants must have at least a 3.2 grade point average and have an established interest in a field of study with emerging bioengineering or biomedical careers nationally and regionally.  Preference will be given to female bioengineering majors based on demonstrated financial need and merit. 

Scholarship recipients may apply for successive awards if they continue to maintain a 3.2 GPA, but an award does not imply continuation beyond a single year.

McCoy, James Anthony Scholarship

Medeiros, Thomas M. '60 Arts Travel Study Abroad Scholarship

This scholarship was established to support students who seek to enrich their education through travel to Portugal or Italy, where in addition to classroom experience in the arts & architecture they may also experience firsthand the richness and inspiration of the arts, both historical and new.

Students must be a CVPA Arts or Architecture Major or must have completed an Arts History Course and be in good academic standing.

To be considered for this scholarship, you must complete the Thomas M. Medeiros '70 Arts Travel Scholarship Application.




Melanson, Philip H. Memorial Scholarship - Graduate

Provide financial assistance to students enrolled full or part time in graduate level Policy Studies programs, or participating in a Policy Studies Internship, with preference given to students who have matriculated into the Master of Public Policy program.

Graduate students must have an overall GPA of 3.2 or higher for newly matriculating graduate students.  Students must also demonstrate an active interest in extra-curricular activities that involve public policy, public service, or community service.

Melanson, Philip H. Memorial Scholarship - Undergraduate

Provide financial assistance to enrolled full or part time in undergraduate level Policy Studies programs, or participating in a Policy Studies Internship, with preference given to students who are declared minors or majors in Policy Studies.

Undergraduate students must have an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher;  Students must also demonstrate an active interest in extra-curricular activities that involve public policy, public service, or community service.

To be considered for this scholarship, you must complete the Philip H. Melanson Memorial Scholarship Application.  The application will become available as of Septermber 1, 2020.




Melendes, Robert A. Memorial Scholarship

To support undergraduate students who demonstrate a gift for the study of physics. The amount of the award may be determined by the selection committee but it is the donor's preference that an award from the fund provide for all or as nearly as possible all of a recipient's tuition, fees, and living expenses for the academic year.  In the event that more candidates are determined to be eligible for the scholarship than there are funds available, the selection committee may look to other criteria such as need or excellence in other fields.  However, a student with less need but greater potential for excellence in physics shall prevail over a student with greater need but less potential.

To support students with meriotious performance in the classroom, and second for those with demonstrated financial need who are U.S. citizens.  Preference is for students who are permanent residents of of Mattapoisett, Fairhaven, Acushnet, Dartmouth or New Bedford, Massachusetts. If there are no qualified students from these towns, then residents of Bristol County will be considered.  Further preference will be given to a rising sophomore students majoring in Marketing with a 3.0 or higher grade point average. Preference will be given to a student from Cambridge, MA who attended the Cambridge Rindge & Latin High School. If a student from Cambridge, MA does not apply, preference will be given to a student from the Greater Boston area.

Travelli Scholarship

The Travelli Scholarship is designed to assist full-time undergraduates, who are Massachusetts residents, and demonstrate academic promise as well as financial need.  Preference is given to incoming freshmen.  Although there is not a minimum GPA requirement, every effort should be made to maintain a quality GPA.  Recipients will attend a mandatory meeting with the donor during the fall semester.

This scholarship was established to provide scholarship assistance to deserving students who elect to further their education by participating in degree credit courses at an international institution of higher education.  Students must be citizens of the United States and have a high level of academic and/or professional accomplishment, as well as demonstrated financial need. 

To be considered for this scholarship, you must complete the Dean Mary Louise Walsh Study Abroad Scholarship Application, the UMassD General Scholarship Application and file your FAFSA by March 1.




Walsh, Jeanne M. Memorial Scholarship

To support students with financial need, who have a chronic illness, who are maintaining a minimum GPA of 2.0 and are enrolled for a minimum of six credit hours per semester.

Ward, Cecilia Scholarship

To support a deserving student with specific literary or performing arts talent who will be prepared to present a performance or reading of an essay in a public forum at the University.  The student must have demonstrated consistent outstanding work in the selected areas, as indicated in his/her academic record.  Preference will be givent to students with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.  Need based criteria may be referenced by the scholarship selection committee in their choice of the student only when two or more applicants have achieved equal academic standing in their performing arts or literary record.  The goal is to give a $1,000 scholarship to two candidates a year, preferably to one in literature and one in a performance field.

To be considered for this scholarship, you must complete the Cecilia B Ward Literary and Perfomring Arts Scholarship Application. Your FAFSA must be filled out by March 1st.




Watkins, Bobby & Rillis Scholarship

To support an incoming freshman who graduated from New Bedford High School.  Student must have demonstrated outstanding performance in character, leadership, scholarship and service in the classroom, on the athletic fields, and in the community.  Annual awards will be $2,000 per student.

Recipients may apply for successive Watkins Scholarships, but an award does not imply continuation beyond a single year.

Watson, Donald Scholarship

To support a full-time junior majoring in Engineering and Science including Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering,
Computer Sciences, BioEngineering (Textiles and Materials) and/or Physics.  Preference will be given to the student who displays a passionate desire to succeed in the above areas, shows outstanding leadership qualities, as well as outstanding communication skills.  Their passion to succeed can be demonstrated by maintaining a 3.0 (or higher) cumulative GPA or by demonstrating an outstanding work ethic be it through the University's co-op program or other work program. 

Other considerations include financial need or the loss of a parent to cancer.

Each scholarship will be up to $3,000 and the scholarship is renewable based on the student's academic performance and co-op experience.

Werly, John M. Memorial Scholarship

To support full-time, undergraduate students with demonstrated financial need who are residents of Fall River, Westport, Dartmouth or New Bedford, MA. Must be majoring in the Humanities or Social Sciences and have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.

White, Michelle & David Nursing Scholarship

To support a College of Nursing, first generation student with demonstrated financial need as determined by the Financial Aid Office.

Whitehead, Cheryl Memorial Scholarship

To support a deserving, non-traditional, high school graduate, college student, or anyone who plans to start or continue  his/her education in an undergraduate or graduate degree program at UMass Dartmouth.  Preference is for female students with financial need.  

Through this scholarship it is hoped that Cheryl Whitehead's love of education will resonate to other creative intellectual with equivalent altruistic desires to "make a difference in our world".  Scholarship recipients will be encouraged to expand their horizons through travel and continung education.

Wilson, Jack Presidential Scholarship

To provide scholarship support to a full-time student with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.25.  Must have earned at least 15 credits at UMassD.  Preference will be for a student majoring in Business, Engineering, or Physics or for students of any major studying abroad.   

Recipients may apply for a second year but one year's award does not guarantee continuation beyond a single year.

Wood, Donald Scholarship

To support the top 3 junior Civil Engineering majors going into their senior year, who have the highest grade point averages.  Students must be citizens of the United States.  The award recipients shall be chosen on the basis of merit and overall academic performance.

To be considered for this scholarship, you must complete the College of Engineering Scholarship Application.




Yerid, Donald M. & Cornelia E Scholarship

To support an undergraduate student in his/her in their junior year who is in good academic standing with a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher and has demonstrated financial need.  Preference is given to Accounting Majors in the Charlton College of Business who are U.S. citizens or other lawful permanent residents of the United States and whose permanent residence is in Massachusetts.
